Website visits are only useful to your business when the right people can take the next step. If visitors leave without enquiring, investigate the journey between landing on a page and successfully contacting you.
Check the promise and the next step
A visitor should quickly understand what you offer, who it is for and how to contact you. A page about specialist roofing services needs information relevant to that service, rather than a broad introduction that leaves the visitor guessing. Review the page on a phone. Can someone find a telephone number or enquiry button without hunting through several menus? Does the button explain what will happen next? A clear invitation to discuss a project can be more useful than an unexplained ‘Submit’.
Test the enquiry process yourself
- Complete the form using a phone and an ordinary email address.
- Check required fields are necessary and clearly labelled.
- Confirm the visitor receives a useful success message.
- Verify the enquiry reaches the person responsible for replying.
- Try an invalid entry and check the correction is understandable.
Too many fields can create friction, but removing essential information may make follow-up harder. Aim for enough detail to respond helpfully, with further questions handled afterwards.
Questions and answers
Does low enquiry volume mean the design is wrong?
Not necessarily. Visitors may be researching, outside your service area or looking for something you do not provide. Check the page’s purpose and incoming traffic before deciding on a redesign.
Should every page have a contact button?
Give each important page a relevant next step. Some visitors need a project example or service explanation before they are ready to contact you.
Can a technical fault lose enquiries?
Yes. Forms, notification delivery and connected systems can fail independently. Test the complete process, including the response at your end.
What should we measure after improving the page?
Compare completed enquiries and their relevance, alongside visits and form failures. More submissions are not automatically better if they are unsuitable for your business.
