A marketing plan should help you decide what to do next. It does not need to become a large document that nobody uses. Our free guide explains the elements you can use to connect business goals with practical marketing work.

Give the plan a purpose and a review date
Begin with the result you want and the customers you need to reach. Set out the offer, the channels you intend to use and the resources you can realistically commit. Consider strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, then identify the decisions that follow from them. A limited budget makes prioritising especially important: trying every channel at once can leave you unable to tell what worked. Include a timeline and a way to review results. Record enquiries, useful conversations or purchases where relevant, rather than judging everything by likes. Use the guide to structure your thinking and bring the unclear parts to a Cofi discussion.
Three actions to try
- Choose one clear marketing objective.
- Describe the audience and offer in plain language.
- Add actions, responsibility and a review date.
Questions and answers
How detailed should my first plan be?
Detailed enough to guide your next actions. A short usable plan is more helpful than a long document with no priorities.
