Can ticket-scanning software work when a venue has poor internet?

Offline scanning can be designed into a ticket system, but its limits must be understood. A scanner can validate against downloaded ticket data; without communication, separate devices may not immediately know that another entrance has already used the same ticket.

The venue needs an agreed approach to synchronisation, cancelled tickets and duplicate attempts. Options could include allocating entrances or using a local network, depending on the site. Staff should see when their data was last updated and when a ticket requires manual review.

Test under the actual expected connection conditions with several devices. Include a ticket refunded after download and one presented at two gates. An offline mode should have a practical operating plan, with reconciliation after service returns, rather than a blanket promise that every check will behave exactly as it does online.
